In certain jurisdictions, the removal of protected trees requires a tree removal permit. This permit ensures that trees are not unnecessarily removed and helps maintain the ecological balance of the area. If you need to remove a protected tree, make sure to obtain the necessary permit. You can find more details and the application process on our website Tips Tree Planting.

Tree Pruning

Proper tree pruning is essential for maintaining tree health and safety. It is crucial to follow recognized standards to avoid damaging trees. The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has established ANSI 300 Part 1: Tree, Shrub, and other Woody Plant Maintenance Standard Practices for tree pruning. Improper pruning techniques can lead to the entry of rot and decay, compromising the tree’s structural integrity. Street Tree Planting Program

We are thrilled to announce that the City of Safety Harbor is continuing its Annual Street Tree Program. As a city resident, you have the opportunity to request a free shade tree to be planted in your front yard. The city will review all requests to ensure the selected tree is suitable for the location and does not conflict with utilities. Available tree options include Southern Live Oak, Gumbo Limbo, Bald Cypress, and Eagleston Holly. While the city will handle the planting, it will be your responsibility to water the tree during the establishment period. A tree watering schedule will be provided to guide you in this process. The deadline to apply for this program is February 7, 2024. To apply and learn more, please visit our website Tips Tree Planting.

A signed waiver form is required when applying for the Street Tree Planting Program. The waiver allows our staff and planting contractors to assess the appropriate location and plant the trees. We offer a selection of trees in 15 and 30-gallon containers, including Southern Live Oak, Sand Live Oak, Bald Cypress, Pignut Hickory, and Winged Elm. While we do our part in planting the trees, we rely on residents to water them and ensure their long-term health. Rest assured, all requests will be carefully reviewed to ensure the selected tree thrives in its new home.
