Magnolia Gardens: Honoring Loved Ones with a Living Legacy

Magnolia Gardens: Honoring Loved Ones with a Living Legacy

Welcome to Tips Tree Planting, where we believe in the power of nature to create beautiful and meaningful spaces. Today, we want to share with you the incredible Magnolia Gardens program, a project that allows you to honor and memorialize your loved ones with a living legacy.

A New Chapter: Magnolia Gardens

Magnolia Gardens is a partnership between the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum Foundation. It is the successor to the Avenue of Magnolias, which for six decades allowed patrons to contribute funds in exchange for a magnolia tree planted in honor or in memory of their loved ones.

Due to new federal highway regulations, the program has transitioned into Magnolia Gardens, maintaining the tradition of creating a beautiful garden area for visitors to enjoy while reflecting on those it represents. This program has planted tens of thousands of magnolia trees along state highways, providing a lasting tribute to cherished individuals.

The Beauty of Magnolia Gardens

Located at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson, Mississippi, Magnolia Gardens offers a stunning landscape that pays homage to the Avenue of Magnolias while incorporating its own unique design elements. As you explore this garden, you will be greeted by a magnolia-lined boulevard and a sidewalk adorned with magnolia trees.

The main garden features a formal design, carefully curated to include a variety of plants, trees, flora, stone, water, and wood. As evening falls, the gardens come alive with strategically placed lighting that enhances the beauty of the space. Take a leisurely stroll along the stone paver walkway, enjoying the lush landscape and marveling at the bronze “Working Man” sculpture that graces the garden.

Magnolia Gardens also boasts container gardens and cypress wood seating, creating cozy and inviting spots for contemplation. Two water features with built-in seating framed by cypress wood shutters provide a peaceful oasis. And don’t forget to admire the stunning seasonal floral beds that add bursts of color to the central area.

Your Contribution Matters

Thanks to the generosity of individuals like you, the initial garden was completed in 2021 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Magnolia Gardens. However, there is still work to be done to fully realize the vision for this remarkable space. To complete the gardens according to plan, an additional $150,000 needs to be raised.

Every contribution, regardless of the amount, is greatly valued. As a token of appreciation, all donations will be acknowledged with a letter. If your donation is made in honor or in memory of someone, a certificate will also be mailed to the designated party, informing them of the heartfelt gesture.

For larger donations exceeding $5,000, a plaque will be placed at the garden site as a permanent tribute. You can simply fill out the contribution form and mail it along with your monetary gift to the provided address.

While we work towards completing the Magnolia Gardens, we invite you to immerse yourself in the beauty of this project.
