For those interested in adopting a legacy bench, an adoption period of 5 years is available. To recognize your contribution, a personalized inscription will be engraved on a plaque attached to the bench. After the initial 5-year period, the current honoree or their family will be given the opportunity to re-adopt the bench and extend their legacy.

Similarly, legacy trees can also be adopted for a 5-year period. While plaques are no longer installed at the tree sites, honorees will be commemorated in Great Parks’ online Legacy Program Gallery for the duration of the adoption period. Friends, family, or the honorees themselves are invited to submit a photo and a heartfelt tribute of up to 100 words. Just like with the benches, the current honoree or their family will have the first opportunity to re-adopt the legacy tree after the initial 5-year period.

Throughout the 5-year adoption period, Great Parks of Hamilton County will ensure the maintenance of the legacy trees and benches. In the event of capital construction, landscape redesign, or any extenuating circumstances, Great Parks reserves the right to relocate or replace the tree or bench with a comparable one. However, rest assured that their dedicated staff will make every effort to contact the donor or honoree beforehand.

To preserve the integrity of the legacy trees and benches, they must be left as they are. No additional decorations, plantings, or ashes should be added. Let the natural beauty of the trees or the simple elegance of the benches be a testament to your enduring love and remembrance.

Legacy trees are typically planted between October 1 and December 15. For those adopting trees after October 1, the planting will take place the following year within the same time frame. On the other hand, legacy benches are available year-round, allowing you the flexibility to create an enduring legacy whenever the time feels right.

As a small gesture of acknowledgment, Great Parks offers to send an acknowledgment card to the family of the honoree, provided an address is provided. It’s a thoughtful way to let them know their loved one’s memory is cherished.

The Process: Bringing Your Legacy to Life

To begin the process of creating a lasting legacy, simply select a tree or bench using the button below. Once done, you will receive a confirmation email containing a PDF of the Legacy Program Guidelines. Print, sign, and either mail or email the Guidelines to Great Parks Forever.

Upon receiving the signed Guidelines, Great Parks will send you a link to complete your donation. You can choose to make your donation by check or pay online, depending on your preference. Rest assured that all contributions made are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Once your legacy bench or tree is confirmed, you or your honoree will be notified. For trees, this confirmation will typically be in the form of a notification that the planting will take place between October 1 and December 15 of the following year. Meanwhile, for benches, the confirmation will indicate the adoption has been successfully completed.

To add a personal touch and share the story behind your legacy, consider emailing a high-resolution photo of your honoree along with a heartfelt tribute of up to 100 words. This will ensure they are included in the Legacy Program Gallery and celebrated for years to come.

Create a legacy that goes beyond a single tree or bench. Consider honoring a loved one by sponsoring the planting of a tree in an undeveloped area of a Great Park. In return, your loved one’s family will receive a personalized certificate indicating the park and your name. For more information on this unique opportunity, visit Reforest a Great Park.
