Dream Big and Become a Mustard Tree

Dream Big and Become a Mustard Tree

It doesn’t happen often, but every now and then, the universe sends me a message that I can’t ignore. This week, that message is all about dreaming big, even when it feels like nothing is happening. Now, I know what you might be thinking – another sermon about having faith the size of a mustard seed. But trust me, this one is different, and it’s worth sticking around for.

You see, when we talk about mustard seeds, we often picture those tiny little things that can sprout into a small mustard plant. But did you know that there is actually a mustard tree? This tree can grow up to 30 feet tall and is one of the fastest-growing trees out there. It’s incredible what can come from something so small. If you’re curious to learn more about the mustard tree, you can check out this article for some fascinating facts.

Matthew 13:31-32 tells us a parable about the mustard seed: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”

How many of us are living our lives like mustard plants instead of mustard trees? Are we content with producing pretty yellow flowers when we could be providing shade and resources for others? It’s a thought-provoking question, isn’t it?

In 2 Corinthians 6:11-13, Paul writes to the church of Corinth, urging them to live a wide-open, spacious life: “Dear, dear Corinthians, I can’t tell you how much I long for you to enter this wide-open, spacious life. We didn’t fence you in. The smallness you feel comes from within you. Your lives aren’t small, but you’re living them in a small way. I’m speaking as plainly as I can and with great affection. Open up your lives. Live openly and expansively!”

Living a wide-open life can be intimidating. It’s natural to prefer boundaries and familiarity, but deep down, we all yearn to dream big and live life to the fullest. We want excitement and fulfillment, but we also fear the unknown. The “what if” scenarios can hold us back, keeping us from soaring to new heights.

But here’s the thing: God has a plan for each and every one of us. Just like He wanted Sarah to dream big and blessed her with an entire nation, He has incredible things in store for you too. It’s time to embrace those mustard seed-sized faith and watch as mountains move and possibilities unfold.

So, go ahead and plant that mustard seed. Let’s grow a tree. Let’s grow our faith, think big, and patiently wait for God’s plan to unfold. Remember, as the mustard seed grows into a majestic tree, you too can become a source of strength, shelter, and blessing for those around you.

To God goes the glory! Have a blessed day!
